Pinewood Panthers v Ludwig Leisure Vipers 29th November 2008

After last weeks fine performance away from home, the Panthers looked to continue their good form at home as they welcomed the Ludwig Leisure Vipers.  Within 2 minutes the boys were a goal down. Not a great start but the goal just spurred the Panthers on as they looked for a quick reply.  Lucas, super charged throughout the game, picked up the ball and showed some great skill to beat his man as he let fly with a shot that was blocked on its way to goal.  Soon after, Charlie ran with the ball out of defence. Just past the half way line he looked up and smashed a great shot up high towards goal. As everyone watched and held their breath the ball sailed over the Vipers defence into the area.  The keeper got his hand to it but couldn't hold on as the ball dropped over the line.  A superb goal brought the Panthers right back into the game.  Dan playing in midfield dug deep along with the ever-dependable Alfie, working hard all over the pitch and Lewis getting himself stuck in at every opportunity.  Tom and Ollie combined well in defence with some rugged defending but were unable to withstand the Vipers pressure as the visitors took the lead. 1-2.  Ewan then burst forward and cracked a shot from outside the box that was blocked by a defender.  Another goal against the run of play extended the visitors lead. 1-3.  Pinewood were straight back on the attack from the kick off.  Lucas was pulled down in the box with the ref pointing straight to the spot.  Dan stepped up to take the penalty looking to score his first goal of the season. He hit a great shot, hard and firm, which was heading for the top right hand corner. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the keeper pulled off a superb save as he dived to his left, with Lucas unable to force home the rebound.  A late goal in the first half by the Vipers gave them a 1-4 lead going into the break.
Another encouraging half time team talk by John had the boys believing they could still get something out the game.  Pinewood tightened up at the back and began to pass the ball around with great confidence. A goal within the first 5 minutes got the boys right back into the match.  Ewan picked up the ball on the left wing; beating his man he hit a long range shot towards the goal. As the ball headed towards the bottom right hand corner it took a slight deflection off Lucas, wrong footing the keeper as it flew into the back of the net.  2 - 4.  Lucas again put the pressure on as he ran into the box looking odds on to score, the goalie saved well at his feet to turn the ball behind for a corner. Charlie decided to try his luck again as he let fly from the half way line only to see his shot spin just inches wide of the left post.  Sam then pulled off the save of the match as the visitors had a rare shot on target in the second half. The ball was hit from just inside the box, looping over the Pinewood defence heading for the top left hand corner. Sam had other ideas as he flung himself up high to his right to tip the ball over the bar for a corner. A save that Pepe Reina would have been proud of!!  The Panthers again went down fighting as the ref blew for time. It was another spirited, wholehearted performance that deserved so much more. Unlucky boys!  Man of the match - Charlie.

Pinewood Predators V Ascot United Thunder 15th November 2008

This week saw the team up against Ascot United Thunder. From the off the Predators were on the attack, with a great run by Ollie Sanders down the wing and a great cross to James Richards who quickly shoot towards the goal just missing the target. Ascot were then on the counter attack with some good passing moves. The Predators held their positions well, some great covering tackles were made by Ollie Roper. Ascot were not to be put off and they continued to pressure the Predators team which ended with a strong shot on the Predators goal, Ethan Cheesemen made a gallant diving save getting his fingers to the ball. Only the power of the shot ensured that it just crossed the line. The Predators kept their heads up and we saw lots of good football. A quick change of players saw Luke Marino come onto the pitch and take up position in midfield immediately dominating the area with some great tackles and marking the Ascot team. Ascot now tried to force forward and they were awarded a Penalty.  Tension rose on the touch line but we should all know better! A good shot my Ascot but there was Ethan with a great save. The Predators kept there composure, knowing that they were the better team. Several runs and a great number of shots on goal ensued, but we just could not seem to get it in the back of the net. As always Ascot were dangerous on the counter attack and scored again. But not to be out done and as the minutes ticked by Jordan Young stormed up the pitch and scored, GOAL.1 -2
As the whistle went for the start of the second half the Predators again started well with lots of good passing and some great shouts for the ball from the throw ins. Luke Taylor showed his determination to win with some great passing to our mid field players Ollie Roper and Ollie Sanders who continued to support the attack and defence. Shot after shot rained down on Ascot's goal but again we could not get in the back of the net. Then after 8 minutes of the second half James Richards scored GOAL.  Not to be out done Joe Taylor tried a quick turn and shot but the Ascot goal keeper saved the shot.  Ascot yet again were on the counter attack but despite some great tackles by Adam Wells and Luke Taylor we could not keep them at bay and Ascot scored. Still we had 10 minutes and Joe Taylor and Jordan Young were determined to score. Still Ascots gaol was impenetrable. As the minutes ticked by you could tell that the team was finding the pitch conditions tough with the heavy soil, yet Luke Marino continued to fight for every ball, Adam Wells stuck to the opponents players like glue. Then within the closing minutes Ascot scored again. 2-4.
Man of the Match Luke Marino. A big cheer should go out to the team as all the coaches and supporters thought the Predators played a fantastic game, really showing us how they could pass the ball, have great strikes on goal and defend and save well. Thanks again to all the supporters and coaches Ronald Malu and Bruce Taylor. Unfortunately Bruce will not be able to see the team get back to their winning ways next week.

Pinewood Panthers v Crusader Kings    15th November 2008

After a run of unfortunate results the Panthers were looking to pick themselves with a good performance on this sunny November morning. The match kicked off with Lucas chasing the ball down in the first few minutes putting pressure on the visitor's defence making some well-timed tackles. Tom too joining in, leading by example. Dan and Ollie lined up in defence with Alfie and Ewan running the midfield. The first chance of the match fell to Pinewood with Tom picking up the ball in defence, charging through the midfield but tackled at the crucial moment before he managed to get a telling shot on goal.  The visitors took the ball up the other end, whipping the ball into the area it struck Dan`s hand unintentionally, as the ref pointed to the spot.  Sam made a cracking save but was unable to hold the rebound. 0-1.  Charlie and Rian entered the pitch immediately getting into the thick of the action. The visitors soon took a two-goal lead as the ball was crossed in from the left and knocked in at the far post leaving Sam with no chance.  Dan and Ollie continued their good form in defence as they tackled hard and cleared up field. Charlie then had a long range shot on goal, which was saved by the keeper.  Another goal by the Crusader kings extended their lead, a good shot from the edge of the box making it 0-3.  Sam's mum Sally put in a rare appearance to watch her son in goal, after seeing him concede 3 goals she decided to leave. Great timing as just before the break Pinewood scored! The boys won a free kick on the left, the ball was passed into Lucas who struck the ball well, lobbing the keeper from the edge of the box, giving Pinewood hope for the second half.
The second half began with Pinewood leading the fight to bring back a two-goal deficit.  With the ball contested mostly in the middle of the pitch chances were few and far between for both sides. Ewan and Tom both ran hard trying to push the ball forward towards goal, with Lucas leading the line well up front having a fine game as he also tracked back on numerous occasions to help out in defence. Ollie, Alfie and Rian tackled well but found it hard to string passes together to put pressure on the visitor's goal.  Dan crunched into a tackle in the middle of the park winning the ball and taking the player too, as he struggled to get to his feet after taking a knock on his ankle. Determined to carry on he picked himself up to contest the drop ball by the ref. The ball bounced towards Charlie who picked it up, skipped past two defenders and headed for goal. Showing some great skill and composure from the edge of the box he shot with the outside of his right boot cracking the ball towards the right corner of the   goal into the back of the net, a superb goal and well deserved!  Ewan showed plenty of passion as he chased all over the pitch, bursting with energy.  With just a few minutes to go the Crusader Kings won a corner. The ball was spun into the box and knocked in to the back of the net from close range. One more chance for Pinewood before the final whistle saw Tom crack a shot straight at the keeper. A spirited performance again by the Panthers, unlucky with one or two decisive decisions as they went down 2 - 4.  Man of the match - Charlie

Pinewood Predators v Ascot United Lightening 8th November 2008

The torrential rain could not put a damper on the Predators performance this week. It was another stirling team effort today in difficult conditions. It all started with Joe Taylor winning the toss of the coin and choosing to kick off. Immediately we were pushing forward, then the heavens opened and the rain came down. Ascot started to put on the pressure but the team held up well with some great defence by Max Angel and Thomas Dempsey. The team recomposed themselves and again we were pushing forward with some great runs from Joe Taylor and Ollie Sanders, who seemed to be covering the whole pitch. With continued pressure from the Predators a number of corners were won. Ultimately one taken by Ben Torr was driven hard towards the goal. Ascot under great pressure not to let the ball get to the waiting line of our top strikers Ascot turned it into their own net. GOAL!! One nil to the Predators. Ascot were on the attack immediately with some strong runs and good passing moves. Ethan Cheeseman kept them at bay with some great saves and great clearances but the team could not stop the torrent and Ascot got a well-deserved equaliser followed by the whistle for half time.
As the whistle went for the start of the second half the Predators were on the attack again, with some great ball control and some strong passes by Abigail Leather. The team were pilling on the pressure on Ascot's goal. This brought about some great saves by the Ascot goalkeeper and an incredible clearance off the line, which stopped the Predators getting another goal. However yet again, Ascot were dangerous on the counter attack, this galvanised the whole team to try and stop Ascot scoring. Then on a break James Richard scored, Goal !! 2 -1 to the Predators. As the minute's ticked away Ascot again were on the attack but the Predators held firm with some great team work and Jordan Young covering every attack until he took a nasty fall and had to leave the pitch with an injured arm. As the final whistle blew the rain stopped and the team left the pitch with a well-deserved victory and just time to award Ollie Sanders with the Man of the Match award. PS A Special mention and thanks to the supporters and the coaches Orrie Dempsey and Ronald Malu who kept the team sprits up and encouraged every move. A GREAT TEAM EFFORT.

Pinewood Pumas v Ascot United Typhoons 8th November 2008

The Pumas made the trip to Ascot for what was sure to be another testing game against a strong Ascot team. Ascot had the centre and started very strongly with much of the game being played in the Pumas half. Both teams traded throw-ins down the Pumas left wing and for a couple of excellent saves by Alex in goal could have taken an early lead. Eventually the game opened up and the Pumas were able to start to use the space available. Tom, wearing the captains' armband, was inspired in the midfield. Josh and Jack R in defence began to pick up the Ascot strikers and deal with any surges forward. Calum was starting to find space on the right. Tim and Will were linking up well and a few chances started to fall to the Pinewood attack. Will and Josh came off and Jack B up front with Harry in defence eager to get in the game. An Ascot clearance fell to Calum who moved down the right flank and crossed for Jack B to deftly flick the ball into the Ascot goal. 1-0. After a rough first 5 minutes Pinewood now had the bit between their teeth and began to apply more pressure to the Ascot goal. Chances beckoned but Pinewood were unable to convert them into goals before the half time whistle blew.
Pinewood began the second half where they left off and were immediately pressuring the Ascot goal. Will sent in a couple of corners that found Jack B who was just shy of converting the chances. Ascot were unable to make any headway past Harry and Tom who held the line well and were instrumental in feeding the midfield of Josh and Jack R to set up the chances for Will and Jack B. Eventually the breakthrough came and it was Jack B who found the way past the Ascot defence after a good cross from Harry to score. 2-0. Pinewood really started to play some great football. A shot from Josh, a great run from Jack R, composed defending from Harry and Tom. Surely it was only a matter of time before we scored again. With the game opening up a bit Alex was called on to make a couple of crucial stops. Will kept peppering the Ascot goal and Jack R had a great shot cleared off the line. Finally Pinewood scored the third goal. Jack B shot well and the keeper managed to get a hand on the ball only to deflect it into the net. Tim and Calum came on for Tom and Jack R. With the game almost won Pinewood lost some shape and conceded two late goals. Although we had a couple of further chances we could not add to the score. The final whistle blew and a fine overall performance by Pinewood was rewarded with another win. 3-2.

Pinewood Panthers v Whitegrove Tornados 25th October 2008

With John and Ewan away this week it was up to Rob and Neil to take the reigns against the Whitegrove Tornados.  From the first whistle Lucas showed he was up for it as he battled to win the ball, harassing the visitors defence.  After 2 minutes the Panthers were awarded a free kick just on the edge of the box.  Charlie stepped up `Ronaldo like` as he weighed up his options.  Ignoring the pass to one of his team mates he ran up a smashed the ball towards the goal, hard and low as it flew past the Tornados defence into the bottom right hand corner.  1-0.  Dan and Lewis stood firm in defence as the Tornados went in search of an equalizer. Tom defended well as he cleared off the line with Sam beaten. Lucas then had a fine shot blocked, which deflected for a corner. A long punt up field from the Whitegrove keeper took everyone by surprise as it went straight through the midfield without a touch, their striker picking the ball up unmarked he coolly slotted past Sam in goal. 1-1.  Rian then produced an inch perfect pass to set Lucas away, who shot straight at the keeper. At the other end Whitegrove hit a post in an exciting first half. Rian and Alfie kept up their good work in midfield with tackle after tackle as they broke up the visitors play. Ollie too had a steady game, with Charlie clearing out of defence well. A late goal by Whitegrove from the edge of the box gave them a goal advantage going into the break. Half Time 1-2.
The second half began with the Panthers playing with their backs against the wall. A long throw in from Whitegrove took the boys by surprise as it sailed over every ones head towards Sams goal, with the Whitegrove striker first to the ball he shot low past Sam into the back of the net. 1-3.  A good save by Sam straight after just about kept the Panthers in the game.  It was all Pinewood for the rest of the match as they tried so hard to turn the game on its head. Dan making a rare venture forward took a long-range shot, which narrowly missed, hitting the side netting.  Rian also shot just wide from a corner. Alfie was again fantastic, playing with passion, not once giving up on any loose balls, he ran himself into the ground, deservedly claiming the man of the match accolade.  Lewis and Ollie also worked tirelessly to try and find an opening for Lucas up front. Tom had the last shot of the match as he stormed into the box only for the keeper to save from close range. The final whistle blew for full time with the Panthers going down 1-3. One consolation was the home side produced the goal of the game scored by Charlie, direct from a free kick, great goal!  Man of the Match - Alfie

Pinewood Pumas v Whitegrove Hurricanes 25th October 2008

The Pumas kicked off and headed straight for the Whitegrove goal forcing an early corner taken by Will. More pressure and a shot by Calum flies just over. Josh attempts a long-range shot, which brushes the post. It appears to be one-way traffic with a throw-in by Tom headed on by Tim with Calum on the end but his shot is blocked. Pinewood defends a Whitegrove corner in one of the few defensive moments the Pumas have. Alex comes on for Tim and is immediately into the attack with a shot on goal saved for a corner. Tom has a shot blocked and another corner follows. Pinewood just can't seem to find the net today. Whitegrove move forward for only the second time in the game and Jack B in goal finally gets his gloves dirty saving the shot. Pumas again move forward and after some neat interchange a handball is given and a penalty to the Pumas is the result. Will steps up to take it and scores with an emphatic strike. 1-0. Pinewood still has some defending to do and Jack R is not going to be passed easily today. Winning the ball he strokes it up to Tom who passes to Calum but his shot is wide. Half time.
Tim comes on for Jack R at the start of the second half. Hungry for goals the Pumas strike at the Whitegrove goal. Will shoots wide. Whitegrove cannot clear their lines and after another corner a shot by Alex hoes in like a rapier on the Whitegrove goal. 2-0. After the kick off more possession from the Pumas and Calum has a shot cleared. Corner after corner rains in on the Whitegrove goal and Tim is just unable to get enough on the shot. At the Pinewood end Josh stands firm with Will and Tim providing cover in the midfield. The action must have been intense because it is at this point that I have given up trying to decipher the match report. Shots from Tom, Josh, Calum are followed up by a great shot and goal from Tim. 3-0. Jack R replaces Tom and Pinewood continue to surge forward for the fourth goal. More shots from Jack R, Calum, Will and Tim go close to the goal. From a Whitegrove goal kick Will controls the ball and shoots but his blocked shot finds Alex who fires into the net and the last action of the game. 4-0. Well played boys, another job well done.

Pinewood Pedators V Whitegrove Typhoons 25th October 2008

There were lots of goals in this fixture and a great overall performance by the whole Predators team. However, the visitors started brightly with two early goals as they settled quickly into the game. After Whitegrove scored their third goal into the top right hand corner of the net we started to settle. Ben was making some good runs into their half aided by James who also made a brilliant header from the Typhoon keeper. In the middle of the pitch Joe and Luke Taylor were making excellent tackles with Oliver and Thomas keeping it solid at the back kicking the ball upfield when required.
We improved even more in the second half and our rewards duly followed, Ben picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch and going on a good run, taking on and beating the Typhoon players, he then calmly picked his spot and scored. More was to follow with Joe supporting Ben who again using his strength beat three players, Joe seeing his opportunity fired home.
In defence Adam was having an excellent game breaking up many Typhoon attacks, with some right at the last minute, even managing a goal line clearance. Max too was making some fabulous tackles with Abigail in support and then making some fine passes to keep our momentum going. However, the visiting side having been blown aside in the opening ten minutes of the second half were gaining momentum, even with Luke Marino making some excellent saves and three more goals promptly followed as we tired. But certainly a very entertaining game so well done to you all.

Pinewood Predators v Finch da Gama 18th October 2008

The Predator's match against Finchampstead on Saturday saw their strongest start to date. The first minute was marked by a determined  run from Jordan which saw the ball passing over Finchampstead's by- line for a corner. The corner, taken by Max on the right hand side, beat everyone, including the keeper, to put Pinewood Predators a goal up after just  90 seconds. The Predators, clearly encouraged by this, kept up the pressure and were notably strong in both attack and defence. Their determination led to most of the first half being played in Finchamstead's half of the pitch. Luke Marino, in goal for this first half, had little to do, but when called upon, looked solid and  reliable, getting to the ball and claiming it a number of times. In front of Luke were Adam and Abigail. Working both together and individually, they provided a strong defence with lots of good tackling and clearances. Noticeably, all of the players were keen very keen to get involved with some great movement and calling for the ball. In the 9th minute, Ben struck the ball from distance, only to see it go wide. This was followed by a similar attempt from Max, again with the ball passing the right post. Oliver and Ethan were then brought on, and the activity around the opposition's goal mouth continued. Ben's next attempt saw the score-sheet move to 2-0 as he calmly pushed the ball wide of their keeper after Pinewood's 4th corner. The players went to the half-time break with this score, with all of them having earned a well-deserved breather.

The second half saw more of the same determined play from the Predators, although Finchampstead began to move the ball more and apply pressure. Ethan, now in goal gave another spirited and enthusiastic performance, controlling the game from the back. A goal-saving clearance early in the second half  maintained a clean sheet for both him and Luke. Oliver made a number of runs up the wings and was never far from the action, dropping back to defend whilst also supporting the forwards, enjoying his midfield role immensely. Luke Taylor, won the ball back for the Predators numerous times, enabling them to turn defence into attack. In the second half, James broke through the opposition's defence a number of times and was unlucky not to see the back of the net. On one occasion a superb long clearance from Ethan set James on his way, but after a good strike, the ball just passed the left upright. As in the first half, Abigail and Adam were determined not to let the opposition break through and made a number of important tackles to break up the opposition's momentum. After a typically strong run from Jordan, towards the end of the game, the ball was passed to Ben, who slotted it passed the keeper for his second goal, making the final score 3-0 to the Predators. A thoroughly impressive performance by all concerned, and a deserved win. Well Done!

Pinewood Panthers v  Laurel Park Tornadoes 18th October 2008

The Panthers first home game of the season saw the visit of Laurel Park Tornadoes.  After their first win of the campaign last week the Panthers were hoping to continue their winning form.  Lining up in a 2-3-1 formation, Dan continuing in defence with Charlie. Lewis, Ewan and Rian ready to battle in midfield with Lucas up front and of course Sam between the posts in goal.  Early pressure from Laurel Park had the boys with their backs against the wall. Good clearing from Dan and Charlie kept the visitors at bay. An early chance for Lucas, running into the box taking a good shot at goal only for the defender to time his tackle well and deflect the ball for a corner.  Rian, Ewan and Lewis worked really hard in the middle as they tried to work the ball forward to Lucas but were up against a strong Laurel Park midfield.  The visitors began to find space as they pressed forward towards Sams goal.  Dan, having one of his best games for Pinewood was in outstanding form as he continued to clear upfield and prove that he can tackle!! On numerous occasions he found himself one on one with the Laurel Park strikers determined not to let anything go through him he didn`t disappoint as he timed his tackles well, very hard but fair!!  The visitors scored with a fine goal. Their striker found space on the right hand side just inside the box  as he cracked an unbelievable shot which flew high into the top right hand corner giving Sam no chance.  Alfie and Ollie entered the pitch, immediately getting into the thick of the action.  Chances for both sides were limited as the ref blew for half time. 0 - 1.
The second half began well for the Panthers as they battled hard to get back into the game.  Within the first 2 minutes Alfie won a penalty after being tripped inside the box. He picked himself up and placed the ball on the spot. A short run up, left footed he struck the ball hard but straight at the keeper who saved well at the second attempt. Hard on Alfie after yet another tremendous display. Not letting his miss get to him he continued to play his heart out for the team. Dan was called upon again in the 2nd half as he proved he can defend if his life depended on it!  Rian also ran his little socks off again, chasing anything that moved!!  Dan and Rian left the field with ten minutes to go for a well deserved rest!  Lucas came on and soon provided  another chance for the Panthers as he had a close range shot saved well by the goalie. Ewan, Lewis and Ollie kept going in midfield and never gave up as Charlie helped out at the back to protect Sams goal with Alfie covering every blade of grass in an attempt to find an equalizer.  Sam made two fantastic saves as the clock ran down with Laurel Park hitting the post in the last few seconds. The ref blew for full time with the Panthers unlucky not to grab a draw which was the least they deserved. Dan picked up the man of the match trophy after an outstanding, committed defensive display, also a fiver from his mum as promised, which he so deserved!!  Keep going like this boys and the results will start going our way.....Well done!!

Pinewood Pumas v Finchampstead Corinthians 18th October 2008

Finchampstead start the game strongly applying early pressure to the Pumas goal. Harry playing in goal gets an early touch on the ball, followed by a good goal kick up to Will who wins a throw. Josh and Jack R produce some excellent defensive tackles early on to keep out the Finch attack. As Pinewood start to produce the football we know they can play Alex finds space to shoot on goal but the shot is saved. Finch seems to employ a shoot on sight policy and some long-range efforts are well saved by Harry. The Pumas start to put some good passes together. A throw-in from Tom to Jack R up to Alex forces a corner. Calum takes it and Jack B clips his shot just wide. More interchanges in the midfield release Tim who is fouled and a free kick to Pinewood. Will steps up and unleashes a shot that finds the back of the net. 1-0. This sparks Finch into action and a very competitive game continues with the teams very evenly matched. The whistle goes for half time.
Pinewood starts the second half and continues where they left off in the first half to pressure the Finch goal. A lack of concentration and Finch get in behind the Pumas defence and equalise. 1-1.Unperturbed, Pinewood are back on the attack for the most concerted pressure that either team has applied during the game. Jack B, Tim and Calum combine well for Jack B to shoot. A number of corners follow but Pinewood are unable to get past the Finch goalie. A great shot by Calum is saved. After good defensive work by Josh and Jack R, Tom finds Calum with a pass which is fed on to Alex but another chance goes just wide. More efforts on goal are met with great resistance and a great effort from Tim is saved. The Finch goalie has definitely kept them in the game. In a rare foray into Pinewood territory Finch have a corner. It is struck at the near post and goes in off the Pinewood defender. 1-2. With only a minute left Pinewood are unable to find the net for an equalizer. It was a supreme performance by all the boys and we should all be proud of the manner in which they accepted the defeat.

Pinewood Panthers v Bracknell Town 11th October 2008

The boys in yellow and red travelled to Bracknell in the hope of recording their first victory of the season, knowing just how premier league side Tottenham Hotspur must be feeling without a win since the campaign started. Arriving early for their pre-match warm up, John had the boys pumped up and ready to go with the opposition worried before they had even kicked a ball!! Ewan and Tom started on the bench with our new substitution rotation in operation for the first time. As the ref blew his whistle the Panthers were off with Lucas showing immediate determination to put pressure on the hosts. Ollie and Charlie forming a solid partnership at the back stood firm and blocked Bracknell Town's route to goal on a number of occasions. Charlie often winning the ball and as always showing fantastic composure to play the ball up field to his teammates. Rian, Alfie and Dan as usual exchanged some neat passes together and tackled well in midfield not allowing Bracknell any time on the ball. Pinewood had the majority of the play in the first half, forcing a number of corners but could not find the breakthrough they so deserved. One of the best moves of the first half saw Rian win the ball, beating his man he played a pass to Dan who turned quickly releasing the ball to set Lucas away only for the Bracknell defenders to clear back towards Sam's goal. Tom and Ewan came on and slotted into their positions, with Tom in midfield and Ewan playing as a lone striker immediately linking up well together. Sam was not called into action much in the first 20 minutes but showed good handling when called upon. Alfie, (where does he get his energy?!) showed tremendous commitment all over the pitch working so hard for the team. Ollie too, showing just what a good player he is pushed forward out of defence on a number of occasions bursting with energy and timing his tackles well. With the clock ticking down to half time Charlie went in for a crunching tackle only to badly injury himself. Play was stopped for a few minutes whilst his injury was assessed, with his teammates concerned and wondering if he would be able to play on. Unfortunately he was to play no more part of the game as he was carried off the pitch suffering a badly bruised ankle. Half time 0 - 0.
Ewan continuing up front showing he can play in any position as he pushed Pinewood forward in search of the first goal of the match. Tom was joined in defence with Dan for the first time, determined to keep their first clean sheet of the season. Lucas also playing an unfamiliar role in midfield competed well for the ball alongside an ever-willing Rian who just kept running and running, snapping away at the oppositions heals!! In goal, Sam was called into action on a couple of occasions providing some good saves to keep us in the game. Ollie continued his good form with a man of the match display chasing the ball all over the pitch throughout the match. Daniel also showed he can tackle hard in defence as he crunched into every tackle leaving a couple of Bracknell boys in a crumpled heap on the floor. Lucas dribbled well with the ball, running towards goal only to be tackled by the Bracknell defenders before being able to release the ball to one of his teammates. The decisive move of the match came with just 5 minutes to go. Rian, having run himself into the ground, was replaced by Alfie, who within a minute put the Panthers into the lead. Pinewood pushed the ball forward into the box with the home side desperately trying to clear, the ball bounced in front of Alfie who needed no second invitation to strike the ball across the goal past the keeper into the bottom left hand corner. Elation on the touchline by the Panthers parents as John almost showed us a little victory dance looking rather pleased with himself!! The boys had to work hard in the final minutes to hold on to their lead as Bracknell pushed for an equalizer. A combination of tackles from Tom and Dan in defence and a couple of decent saves by Sam protected our lead. As the ref blew for full time the Panthers celebrated their first win of the season with a much improved, committed performance and most importantly a win, which they really deserved. Well done boys, keep it up. Man of the match - Ollie

Pinewood Predators v Mortimer Stingers 11th October 2008

The scoreline defied the teams performance today. Star of the game and man of match must go to Ethan Cheeseman. With a last minute change to positions, Ethan took on the role of Goal keeper. He made some fantastic saves through out the match and some inventive and great clearances. The team often had the ball in Mortimer's goal area but could not quite get through the Stingers defence. Great shots by Jordan Young, Ollie Sanders, Joe Taylor were all cleared or saved. Ben Torr had another good match with a great run and scored the Predators only goal.
There was great defence by Thomas Dempsey who through out stuck to his position. Luke Taylor made some great tackles and defended well in the first half. Adam Wells marked his man well and with some great calling for the ball, I'm sure he could be heard back in Pinewood.  Max Angel and Ollie Roper both had good games with good passing, strong tackles and good runs always pushing up and supporting our attack. The Pinewood Supporters club also warrent a mentioned with their great encouragement from the sidelines. Bruce and I may need to get some loud haylors so that we can be heard above the roar and chearing of the specators for our next match.

Pinewood Pumas v Calcot Hawks Kestrels 11th October 2008

The Pumas make the trip down the in the October sun for their first visit to Calcot Hawks. The Pumas start the match and are quickly into their stride. Tim strikes well for his shot to be saved by keeper. Good play by Tim to Jack B and opens up the Kestrels defence and the pattern for the first half is set. Next a strike by Alex forces the Kestrel keeper into parrying the shot. Calum pounces on the loose ball to tap in. 1-0. From the restart the Pumas regain possession. Definitely the Pumas best game of the season so far. The space suited the team and to a man they all played a great game.

Will stepped up to take it and struck a left foot shot at the goal which found its way to the back of the net. 1-0. From the restart the Lions were fired up and so began an intense spell of pressure on the Pinewood goal. Josh was called upon several times making some great stops to keep the visitors out. Pinewood Panthers v Calcot Hawks Kestrels 4th October 2008.

Panthers made the visit down the M4 to Calcot to play the Kesterals in a late arranged friendly. The boys were determined to start with much more passion than of late in the first half. Calcot were from the division above and their quality showed in the first few minutes as they passed the ball around nicely. But the Panthers were lauching in to tackles and 50/50 balls with serious desire and the defensive partnership of Tom and Ollie were solid. Ollie had his best game in a Pinewood shirt to date anda was really enjoying himself. In fact it was a different team that held out for 15 minutes before conceding a well worked goal for which Sam stood no chance at all.Rian and Alfie bossed the midfield and chased and hassled for eveything. Charlie and Daniel worked nicely together in midfield, with little interchanges and great support work for each other. Ewan continued his smashing recent run of form up front with a rejuvenated Lucas but alas they could not stop the second goal from Calcot just before half time. Sam made three quality saves, including turning a low cross around the post in spectacular fashion.
Another rousing team talk was required at half time and the boys came out determined to pull the goals back. Tom found himself on a number of occasions going straight through the tackles of the Calcot team on his way to goal, only to find himself thwarted by the last defender. But the boys never gave up, and had a couple of excellent chances. Ewan picked the ball up well in his own half, and turned the power on

Binfield Rockets v Pinewood Predators 27th September 2008.

Autumn hit hard on this cold foggy morning but everyone was in a confident mood having already beaten this team a few weeks earlier. However we found ourselves 1 nil down after only a few minutes as Binfield started very well and we struggled to find our game. Then amazingly we were 2 nil down a s a freak goal was conseded from a goal kick .  No one was to blame and the team started to get their cnfidence back and it was game on. James started to show some realy neat footwork up front and if it wasn't for some lucky defending we would have scored. Our first goal came as Ben picked up the ball in defence and ran into space and more space and in the end found himself 1 on 1 with the keeper and calmly slotted the ball home.
The whole team were lifted with chances to score continually. Ollie really stepped up to the mark with some great runs and dazzling footwork and eventually got his reward with a tidy left foot 'Ronaldo' like strike. He even made a sliding save off our own goal line to keep us in the match. 2:2 and the game was ours for the taking. The wood work was hit a number of times but we couldn't quite get the winner. The whole team should be proud as they were terrific and played in the right spirit.

Binfield Sharks v Pinewood Panthers 27th September 2008.

The Panthers saw the return of Alfie and Thomas to the squad for the trip to Binfield. After last weeks defeat at Woodley the boys were determined for an improved performance. The match began with Pinewood on the attack, a long range shot from Dan flew just wide of the post.  With the absence of  Ollie, Charlie dropped back into defence with Tom who found themselves under attack for most of the first half.  A good save from Sam kept the hosts at bay but it wasn't long before Binfield took the lead.  Ewan, Alfie and Rian showed great determination and energy in the middle, dropping back into defence when needed.  Lewis and Dan worked tirelessly as they tried to clear the ball up front to Lucas. Two goals in quick succession, the second, a lucky deflection past Sam put Binfield 3 goals to the good.   Alfie fresh from his week off ran and ran showing some great skill and flair to beat his opponents. By half time the Panthers were Four nil down and in need of another encouraging half time team talk from the coach!!
Pinewood began the second half a different team from the first, putting pressure on the Binfield defence in search of their first goal of the season.  Good work from Dan and Alfie produced the only goal of the game for the Panthers.  Dan chased the ball down on the left wing, robbing the Binfield defender of the ball he looked up and  passed to Alfie who showed  grit and determination with a drop of the shoulder he skipped past 3 defenders with ease.  As he charged towards the goal he released the perfect pass to Ewan who cracked an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box that flew into the back of the Binfield net. 4-1. Tom, renowned for his crunching tackles didn't let the side down with a man of the match performance as he continued to break up the Binfield attacks time after time. Charlie, again solid in defence looked calm and composed as he played the ball up field where Dan and Lewis pressured the home side and scrapped for every ball.  Alfie bursting with energy ran the midfield with another fine display, with Ewan and Rian covering every single blade of grass on the pitch.  Lucas again playing as a lone striker for most of the match found it hard to get into the game although produced a couple of good runs towards goal.  Sam continued to produce some top saves throughout the second half as Binfield looked to stretch their lead. A late goal by the home side made the scoreline 5-1 as the ref blew for full time. Still in search of their first win of the season saw a much improved, spirited second half performance by the Panthers.  Man of the match - Thomas.

Woodley Saints v Pinewood Panthers     20th September 2008.

The Panthers travelled to Woodley for their first match of the season.  Without Alfie and Tom in the squad, Pinewood lined up against a very well organized side from Woodley.  From the first whistle the home side put the Panthers under immense pressure and were a goal up within the first 3 minutes after a low shot into the corner of the net. Pinewood struggled to find their form from last season as they conceded a second goal direct from a corner. Charlie and Ewan in defence had their backs to the wall for most of the first half with Dan, Lewis and Ollie helping out with some good tackles as they tried to clear the ball up field. Rian was all over the pitch, crunching into tackles and running with the ball at every opportunity. Lucas played up front alone but had little to feed on as the hosts went three nil up from a shot that Sam saved well, only for their striker to knock in the rebound. Soon after, Pinewood conceded a fourth and a fifth as Woodley continued to shower Sam's goal with long-range shots from all angles. Sam made a string of top saves to keep the score line down. Pinewood heads were down at the break, in desperate need of an encouraging half time team talk from the coach!!
Whatever John said to the boys at the break, it certainly worked!! Heads were up and they were ready to fight for the next 20 minutes.  Woodley again put on early pressure as Sam saved superbly with his feet.  This spurred the boys on as they went in search of a goal. Lucas finished off a great move with a shot, which was destined for the top corner only for the Woodley keeper to make a fine save. Ewan then made space for a great shot on target, which was deflected, for a corner. Lewis, Dan and Ollie were superb at the back showing great determination as they went into every challenge. Rian, Charlie and Ewan ran their socks off throughout as Pinewood showed a much-improved spirited second half performance. In search for their first goal which they so deserved the Panthers lost the ball and against the run of play Woodley broke, sweeping the ball down the pitch, after some good passing they made it 6 nil. Sam continued to produce some fine saves but was unfortunate to concede a seventh with just a few minutes to go.  Pinewood pressed forward with the last attack of the game, good passing through the middle sent Ewan away on goal. As he charged into the box ready to unleash a shot on goal he was fouled from behind with the referee immediately pointing to the spot. Ewan was hurt and unable to take the penalty, so Lucas stepped up and put the ball on the spot. He shot low and hard only for the keeper to make a fine save. The ref blew for full time. Pinewood can be proud of their second half performance as they played with great determination and pride.  Man of the match - Rian.

Hawley Raiders v Pinewood Pumas 20th September 2008.

Pinewood start the game brightly and are soon into their stride with Jack B and Alex having chances to open the scoring early on. Josh foils an early Hawley attack in defence. Moments later Will has a long-range effort going just wide. Tim comes on to replace Will and is soon into the action. Within minutes Tim has latched onto a rebound and scores. 1 -0. Pinewood are soon under pressure and a free kick is awarded to Hawley. The shot just clips the bar and goes over. Phew! Pinewood pressure and have 3 corners in succession. Calum replaces Jack B And Harry is on for Jack R. Another Hawley attack is cleared by Dan in goal, which sets up an attack for Pinewood. Harry shoots from long range just over the bar. Half Time arrives.
The second half starts with end-to-end football. Will comes on for an injured Alex. Hawley have yet another free kick which Dan saves. Calum has a chance shooting after q good run up the wing. Will takes the corner. A left foot in swinger finds the back of the net. 2 - 0. Soon Hawley are on the attack and after some good play score their first goal. 2 - 1. Alex and Jack B link up to create a chance but the shot is deflected wide. Another attack by the home side sees a shot creep into the Pinewood goal. 2 - 2. Thom as and Jack R hold firm at the back repelling further attacks. Finally a break through as Harry finds the back of the net. 3 -2. Pinewood begins to take control and Jack B claims his first goal of the campaign. 4 - 2. Harry and Alex combine in midfield whilst Thomas and Josh keep Hawley at bay in defence. Pinewood keep going forward in search of another goal and manage to force a corner. It is cleared but only to Jack R who sends a looping shot which appears to be going wide. Up pops Jack B who diverts the ball into the net with his head. 5 - 2. Alex has the final shot of the game that is just over. The final whistle blows and after nearly 60 minutes of football Pinewood run out the winners.

Pinewood Predators v Binfield Rockets 6th September 2008.

The summer transfer window had seen the introduction of new blood to the team in the form of Ben, Thomas and Jordan, and they were to be highly instrumental in what was a momentous 40 minutes of football.
Sam started in goal keen to replicate his exploits of last season as a big shot stopper. As the sun came out the Predators were still finding their feet and found themselves a goal behind to a well struck shot that nestled in the corner of the net. Then at 5 minutes gone something changed. Jordan despite being the smallest player on the field showed amazing footwork to skip through what seemed like every player of the pitch, but just failed to get that last pass away. In defence debutants Thomas and Ben were massive. Nothing was going past them any more today and Ben went on a mazy run through the midfield and the left side of the defence before finding hinself one on one with the keeper. A nonchalant but perfectly executed chip brought Pinewood back in to the game for Bens debut goal and the heads lifted again.
Whenever the ball came near Thomas it was cleared to safety or to the midfield combination of Abi and Jordan to take it upfield. Midfield dynamo Jordan went on another great run and managed to find James at the near post. Sensing this was his chance James pulled the trigger first time and unleashed a rocket past the Binfield keeper to send his Dad into euphoria on the touch line again and make him once again dig in to his "pound per goal" stash for his son. The revelation of the new season was Joe, who launched himself in to tackles like a new character, and ran and passed like someone who has been working very hard over the break. And it was to reap its reward as the very talented Taylor left foot met a pulled back ball to beat the Binfield keeper and send the players, coaches and parents into dream land.
At half time it was 3-1 and time to make a change. Sam came out for Abi in goal and she made an incredible save with her legs from point blank range to keep the score 3-1. But all the action was on the Binfield goal after that. Jordan was so unlucky not to have a goal, as was Ben, and Sam ran and ran and ran like a young Forrest Gump. As the sun continued to shine the ref blew for a well deserved 3-1 win to the Predators - their first win ever and a fantastic performance of which the team of Sam, Abi, Thomas, Ben, Joe, James and Jordan can be immensely proud!

Pinewood Pumas v Binfield Jets 6th September 2008.

Harry was todays captain and things started well as Pinewood won the toss and kicked off. Soon the Pumas were on the attack with Tim pressuring the Binfield defence. The trouble is cleared and Binfield mount their first attack. Josh and Jack R work hard to clear their lines. After several exchanges Binfield have a free kick. Binfield shoot but the shot is turned over the bar by Will in the Pumas's goal. Pinewood work the ball up to Calum who shoots just wide. Binfield attack and find gaps in the Pinewood defence. Unmarked their striker gets the first goal of the game. 1 - 0. Pinewood go on the attack and Thomas finds Harry whose long range shot squeezes over the bar. Pinewood continue to pressure but a long range shot from Binfield finds its way into the Pumas goal. 2 - 0. Pinewood make a couple of changes and Jack B passes to Alex who shoots only to get deflected for a corner. Pinewood get caught short in defence again and after a neat move Binfiled outnumber the Pinewood defence to score their third goal of the half. 3 - 0.
The second half starts and Binfield are on the attack only to be denied by a fine save from Tom in goal. Pinewood turn defence into attack and Alex shoots to find the net for the Pumas. 3 - 1. After the restart Daniel is called to defend the Pinewood goal. With chances happening at both ends it is Pinewood who score next, Alex with a close range effort. 3 - 2. It's now game on and both teams make chances with shots being well saved by both goalkeepers. The last chance of the match falls to Pinewood but Alex shoots just wide and the game finishes 3 - 2. The boys fought well and almost turned around the 3 goal deficit in a truely exciting game. Well done lads!!
